Disney On Ice Princesses and Heroes is heading to Hartford!

Disney on Ice

Our family loves everything Disney. Seriously, we are freaks for anything Disney. When we saw that Disney on Ice was coming to Hartford we were thrilled. We took the kids to a Disney on Ice show years ago. Chloe was a baby actually. Jacob had a blast and loved every minute of it. I loved seeing the look on his face through the whole thing. He was in a trance! He thought it was the best night ever at that time of his cute little life. It really was a fun family night out, and we are looking forward to seeing the show this week.

If you are looking for something fun to do with the kids this week, here is some information about the show.

Feld Entertainment produced this new touring show that takes audiences where imaginations soar and anything can happen if they just believe. Ariel’s dreams are unlocked from under the sea and, in one magical moment, Prince Eric breaks Ursula’s slithering spell to reclaim his one true love. In a race against time to rescue Sleeping Beauty’s Aurora, Prince Philip defeats the evil Maleficent as she transforms into a fire-breathing dragon. Rapunzel fulfills her dream to escape the tower and see the floating lights; Tiana celebrates her ambitions of owning a restaurant down in New Orleans; Jasmine discovers a whole new world with Aladdin; and Snow White finds her one true love. This beautiful presentation also reveals Cinderella and Belle’s deepest wishes.

Have you ever been to a Disney on Ice show? Are you a crazy Disney fan like I am? I’d love to hear about it! If you are planning on seeing the show this week let me know how you liked it and if you see me wandering around in my Disney trance looking for some light up thing we really don’t need, but HAVE TO HAVE, say hi!

Happy New Year. :)

Happy New year!

2013 has been a strange but amazing year. I started the year thinking I knew the exact direction I was going, and ended up in a place I never expected. Although I didn’t set out to end up where I am, I am exactly where I should be. Funny how that happens sometimes.

This past year was full of adventure and I hope the same for 2014. When I sit and look at everything we have done I can’t help but laugh. So many awesome memories. One of the things we are going to do more of is local adventures. Last year we traveled a lot and even though we are heading to Disney and camping in Maine this year, we are looking forward to exploring more locally. Some of our best trips and most fun memories are from day trips we took around the state.

Balancing a full time job, family, and blogging is going to be a big challenge this year. A challenge I will be sharing with you along the way. I know I will also need some advice and will be turning to all of you for some tips and tricks. I have had a bit of a rough time getting used to the new schedule. I’m finally feeling back to normal and seem to have somewhat of a routine down. So far so good!

We had a great Christmas and a fun New Years Eve at Coco Keys Water park in Waterbury. (Post to come soon) I hope you all had a great holiday and had the Happiest of New Years. Can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store for all of us!

What are some things you are looking forward to or are planning to do in 2014?

It was so fun looking back at the year with this slide show!

Our surprisingly fun trip to Florida on an Amtrak train

Back at the end of the Summer I wrote about getting ready for our #FamilyForward trip. Since we have been back it’s been insanely crazy. This Fall has totally kicked my ass. I have been so busy, at times I thought there was no way I could keep my head above water. Things are finally getting back to somewhat normal and now I can actually sit down and share some fun we have been having.

I really wanted to make sure I wrote about our Amtrak trip to Orlando. Every time someone hears that we took a train to Florida from Connecticut I can see the disbelief in their eyes. We get so many questions about it. To tell you the truth, when I was booking the trip I thought we were crazy. We had no idea what to expect. I knew it would be an adventure. Good or bad, we would be making some family memories!

One of the things that made me so happy was that even though we didn’t buy assigned seats, they assigned our seats as we got on the train in NYC. I was stressed about how that worked, I was worried we wouldn’t all be able to sit together. But luckily no worries! The service crew in NYC were fabulous. So friendly and super nice. Chatted with everyone and traded jokes with my kids. We packed a cooler with a bunch of food and drinks for the trip. Best idea ever. Saved a lot of money and we didn’t really have to worry about the cafe car times. The kids did get to pick out a treat from the cafe car, but not having to buy full meals was a big money saver.

Chloe loved that you could walk around the train. She thought the cafe car was the coolest thing in the world. She had a blast playing card games at the table while having a snack. It was nice to go into the dining car and get a change of scenery. We also packed our portable dvd player and the kids watched Harry Potter and Despicable Me in preparation for Universal Studios.

Amtrak 2

When we arrived in Orlando Town Car Now was there waiting for us. The kids got such a kick out of seeing our name on the sign! The drive to Loews Royal Pacific Resort was short and our driver was fabulous. It was a great start to our vacation.

All in all we loved traveling by train to Florida. It was much more relaxing than driving. In the end we all decided we would totally do it again. In fact, I am looking at booking our train for our April trip to Disney as we speak. Have you ever traveled long distance by train? I’d love to hear about your trip! Are you thinking of taking a long trip by train and have questions? Ask me anything!

happy monday

Happy Monday.

I hope you all had a good weekend. Weekends are always too short. We managed to get a lot of things done around the house and had a chance to hang out with some friends for homemade pizza and beer on Saturday night. Great great weekend.

Things have slowed down a bit. Chloe’s cheer has ended for the season. Even though she is now doing swimming, it is not at all as time consuming as cheer. A couple of weekends ago we visited Chelsea in NYC. It was homecoming weekend. We had so much fun and seeing Chelsea was the best. Can’t wait for her to be home for Thanksgiving. It’s crazy how busy Fall gets. It will be nice to have family time over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Halloween was a blast. The kids ate way too much candy and stayed up too late. It was perfect. This year the weather was great. No snow storms or hurricanes. WooHoo! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I keep it pretty low key around here so I can actually enjoy it.

This is just a little snapshot of the last couple of weeks. Next up is my post about our Amtrack trip to Florida. I am finally getting back into the swing of writing!

I hope you had a good weekend. I’d love to hear what you did!
Have a wonderful week. :)

Can’t wait to see Disney’s Frozen!

We are SO looking forward to seeing Disney’s Frozen when it comes out on November 27th. Who else is excited? Are you planning on heading to the theater Thanksgiving weekend?

Family Time at Lyman Orchards this weekend

This weekend was the first weekend in ages that we had any free time. Of course we HAD to find something to do Sunday afternoon. How could we waste the day? Actually we are very good at wasting the day away at home, but we knew we didn’t have much free time before Halloween and we had some stuff we wanted to do.

Lyman Orchards 2

Off to Lyman Orchards we went! What a beautiful Fall day. The weather was perfect for the Corn Maze. The kids had a blast picking out pumpkins and we even bought a huge scarecrow for our yard. The Apple Barrel was crowded, but not as crazy as I had expected. We must have timed it right!

We made sure we picked up our favorite apple cider donut holes and of course a famous Hi-Top Apple Pie . We have a busy week ahead this week, and are heading to NYC for family weekend at Chelsea’s college this weekend. I am so happy we were able to fit in a trip to Lyman Orchards. It wouldn’t feel like Fall without it!

Lyman Orchards

If you are looking for something fun to do with the family you should totally check out Lyman Orchards. They have their awesome corn maze and when we were there, they also had pony rides for the kids. Check out what is available for picking and make a fun day of it. Are you already a fan of Lyman Orchards? I’d love to hear why you love it!

Fall, Football and Finding my center

UCONN game

It finally feels like Fall around here. Yesterday was a day filled with Football, marching bands and warm comfy sweatshirts. What a long day. Although I was exhausted at the end of the night, I loved every minute of it. I am really trying to soak in each moment that I can have fun and spend time with my family. Do I love College Football? Nope. Not at all. But I have a family that does, so that makes it important to me.

Chloe Cheer

We had a crazy busy Summer. I think I have just recovered from it. As I have been saying for a while, I am on a mission to have fun with my family. To have fun in the everyday of life. I want to look at the day in a whole new way. Find the happy. Look for the joy. This Summer was full of happy and overflowed with joy. We sent Chelsea off to college for her new life adventure, we experienced the incredible Boardwalk in Atlantic City and spent a week camping in Maine with family.

Our Summer ended with an amazing train trip to Florida for Mom It Forward’s Family Forward Retreat. You read that right. We took a train. Get ready to hear about some of these fun experiences, and what we learned along the way this Summer. I am finally back to my regular schedule, and the kids are all settled in to their schedules. I’m still a little overwhelmed with all of the lunch making and school paperwork, but I’m getting there.

For me, Fall is a time to breathe. A time to really stop and take a deep breath. Set new goals. Am I the only one who does this in the Fall? I kind of think of Fall and the beginning of the new school year as my New Year. The new schedule we start in September is a great reminder to me to set priorities and and settle in to home life for a while. Vacations and not being scheduled is awesome, but I can only handle that for the Summer. Once Summer is over I am SO ready to get back on track. The kids are too.

So tell me, do you think of the Fall as your New Year too?

I hope you all had a great weekend and you have a fantastic week ahead!
